The Kraken is meant to challenge a party that is trapped on the water. Their spell-like abilities are unchanged, for the most part, but again–they still have them, and can employ them to do their terrible work. After the war of the gods ended, they went to the depths of the ocean where they wished to never be bound by beings ever again and bring terror and ferocity on their own end. They do not revel in destruction the way their aquatic kin might, but they also have no mercy or sympathy for what they believe are lesser beings – which is pretty much everyone, except for another kraken and ancient dragons. It loses something if you can teleport away (which a level 20 party can do)–in earlier editions, the Kraken would flee after you cut off three of its tentacles. That would be pretty frustrating, being so smart with no magic. The sand kraken ignores difficult terrain, and magical effects can’t reduce its speed or cause it to be restrained. An easy and logical solution might be to give it a tremorsense of a reasonable amount, which makes sense considering how connected it appears to be with its habitat. Fire Storm (Costs 2 Actions).
